Day 1 Discover Manizales & Birdwatching at Río Blanco
Your clients will start the day early with a visit to Río Blanco Nature Reserve, one of Colombia’s top birdwatching destinations. Home to more than 360 bird species, this protected cloud forest offers peaceful trails, hummingbird feeders, and the chance to learn about local conservation efforts with an expert guide. In the afternoon, they could explore Manizales’ historic centre, visit the impressive Cathedral Basilica and Plaza Bolívar, and continue to the traditional Chipre neighbourhood for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Day 2 Los Nevados National Natural Park
Today could be spent exploring Los Nevados National Natural Park, one of Colombia’s most spectacular high-altitude ecosystems. This journey begins with scenic drives through traditional coffee landscapes before climbing into the páramo, where giant frailejones dominate the scenery. As the elevation increases, the landscape transforms into a dramatic volcanic environment leading to the Desierto de la Soledad and the foothills of Nevado del Ruiz. Along the way, several stops allow visitors to gradually adapt to the altitude while enjoying beautiful viewpoints. On clear days, it is even possible to spot Andean condors soaring above the mountains. The adventure concludes with time to relax in natural hot springs, creating the perfect contrast between the cool mountain air and warm volcanic waters.
Day 3 Chocolate Traditions & Botanical Treasures
The final day would start at Hacienda Venecia with a hands-on chocolate workshop. Clients can discover the journey “from tree to bar” as they walk through cacao plantations, taste fresh cacao fruit, and learn the traditional processes of fermentation, drying, roasting, and grinding before creating their own chocolate bar. For those interested, the estate also offers an optional rum experience showcasing local distillation traditions. In the afternoon, there is the chance to visit La Romelia Orchid Farm, a peaceful private estate dedicated to the conservation of Colombia’s extraordinary plant life. Home to more than 6,000 orchids representing hundreds of species, along with bonsais, carnivorous plants, and abundant birdlife, the farm offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s remarkable biodiversity.
